Can insulin cause autoimmune diabetes???

Is anyone aware of any evidence, or have a reason to believe that exogenous insulin administration can cause auto-immune diabetes? I recall hearing this once, but so far I haven't been able to find any evidence that there is any truth to this.

No. Type 1 Diabetes is caused by defective self-reactive T-cells, not by injecting insulin. There is a genetic component to the disease.

Many type 2 diabetics inject insulin, but none of them ever end up with the autoimmune disorder that is type 1.

I was interested in this topic, so I did some research. Check this Type-2 diabetes linked to autoimmune reaction in study | News Center | Stanford Medicine. From what I understand, there's a connection between diabetes and autoimmunity.

Insulin abuse can and often will result in an increased risk of type 2 diabetes. Type 2 diabetes is primarily insulin resistance. Using it for body building is ignorant and ineffective.

Also Type 2 diabetes is a life-long disease, even the symptoms may vary in certain people. Don't play with something like that.

Diabetes II is a very horrible thing. A friend of mine suffers from it and for me it sounds like hell. Don't get yourself involved into that.

I have never heard of such a thing. Insulin is not supposed to cause autoimmune diseases and from what I have learned there is no evidence that it has done so.

Many of my family members have diabetes. It really depends on how you handle and control the illness. My dad has been diagnosed with the illness long before my uncle, but because he obediently follows his diet and avoids those that he's not allowed to eat and drink, he's still taking insulin orally. My uncle is already administering insulin through injections, which means his case is more serious than my dad's.

The answer is no, my dear. I don't know where this idea came from, but it is definitely a myth! So, stop worrying now and just enjoy what insulin gives you!
