    PT-141 & Antidepressants interactions

    Hi,

I know there's a short thread about it already, but there's virtually no information coming up there.

I'm surprised that I can't find any information regarding possible interactions of PT-141 and antidepressants (i.e. SSRIs/SNRIs), because many - if not most - cases of "sexual dysfunction" are caused by those medications. So users of SSRIs actually must be THE major target group for PT-141.

Does anyone have profund information on that topic?

    Thanks!

    Re: PT-141 & Antidepressants interactions

Sorry for the incredibly slow reply, I have been inactive lately and only replying to direct messages/threads - but I'm slowly clearing the backlog of messages.

There are a few reported interactions of antidepressants interfering with PT141, however I can't seem to put my hands on any at the moment, but I will keep searching for you.
It basically boils down to how SNRIs block the sexual interactions of the MC4R - however I believe the SSRIs and MOAIs don't suffer from the same fate; but don't quote me on that just yet. Hopefully I can get back to you soon, I just wanted to post something so you knew that it was being thought about.

goggle it and you come up with a lot of info on ED drugs and antidepressants, think the same info would apply to use of 141 .

I believe PT141 should be set apart from the others as it acts on the MC4R, directly stimulating the mind - hence the 'first true aphrodisiac' tagline often used for it.

Viagra, Cialis and Levitra all act as PDE5 inhibitors, which blocks the degradation of cGMP PDE5 in the smooth muscle lining the penis - this is more of a physical rather than mental solution.

Because of that difference, if your antidepressants are also fiddling with your mind there could be some overlap there between your medication and the PT141.

I believe the some antidepressants are more effective with PT141 as they all act in different ways.
Doing a little bit of reading, I think I got mixed up in my earlier post, as SNRIs are generally better due to the elevated levels of norepinephrine which could in fact help with the decreased libido caused by elevated serotonin levels.
It is also handy that SNRIs are currently the most prescribed antidepressant, but it's also worth noting that increased blood pressure is an issue to keep an eye on as there was issues with BP in the Pfitzer PT141 trial.
