Hi all,
Some of you will know my story and how I felt in the hands of melanotan (now afamelanotide [ melanotan -1]).
Unfortunately , my stubbornness and persistence have led me to read all that has fallen into my hands about Melanoma]
Took more than two years of study during which I have been learning about melanoma and was able to draw several conclusions that I would like to share with you so that you can avoid, if possible , the Melanoma . Here I explain them ]
The primary cause of melanoma is sun exposure due to a lack of Vitamin D.
These deficiencies of Vitamin D can come motivated by various causes, genetics, to poor synthesis of Vitamin D predisposition , which in youth is not noticiable but usually appear over the years , ( this explains why usually occurs with age) .
Imbalances in the bio-availability of vitamin D .
As we all know vitamin D is available by food or by sun exposure , being the major source of vitamin D the sun exposure. At this point you will wonder why then the sun produces Melanoma , well the reason is simple]
The mechanism by which the body protects itself from sunlight, are melanocytes, which act as a screen preventing sunlight damage in cellular DNA ,
In turn, the body protects itself from damage caused by the sun's rays passing through the barrier of melanocytes by a potent anticarcinogenic substance]*
If much sunbathing without protection of melanocytes causes you'll spend all your body available vitamin D to mitigate the damage. Sun also produces vitamin D, but if the exposure is too much your body does not have enough Vitamin D to repair all damages that are occurring in your skin, therefore it is not able to act against early cancer and precancerous lesions
If you have a very low sun exposure, and also have a genetic predisposition to poor synthesis of Vitamin D , you let your body defenseless against carcinogenic cell caused by external chemical agents, sun exposure, viruses, bacteria etc.... it is clear that not only the sun causes melanoma, example is the oral or intestinal melanoma.
This demonstrated that the Melanoma occurs in the moments when the body has low defenses (defenses could also* fall due to a solar overexposition)
This explains why people who have never sunbathed suffer Melanoma and very white people with or without solar overexposure also suffers it .
It is also shown that a gradual and constant sun exposure is beneficial, because the melanocytes are responsible to protect and maintain the same level of melanocytes in the skin to always have some protection , which will not serve us any good if we force our body so unnatural to spend more time in the sun than you can tolerate.
This also proves that the people who work outdoors are less melanoma suffered than those who works in offices.
Conclusion]
Take the sun gradually. Do not burn . Do not avoid the sun as this would be a mistake but you must use it wisely . For short sunbaths 5-10 min, do not use Sunscreen (decompensation with unknown effects between UVA and UVB rays, also carcinogenics effects of the cream composition) , but if you 're going to spend time under the sun use Sunscreen
Oral protection is something to consider , to correct some of the damage that sunlight can cause ( Polypodium Leucotomus ) .
The way that melanotan protects melanoma is by increasing melanocytes, it is very beneficial but not essential , except for types I , for whom it is essential .
Vitamin D supplementation would be very beneficial during the first solar baths.
If after all , you have sunburned, Ibuprofen shall reduce some damage that causes inflammation of the epidermis (Interleukinas),
I have several theories that I will not even explain because I have not proven , but i will advance one whereby the melanotan (afamelanotide [ melanotan -1]) would act as anti- melanoma agent via the activation of SOX9 by MC1R . As pigmentation moles are the reaction of the body to protect against damage from melanoma.
Please if anyone disagrees with my theories , let me know why to let me see different points of view .
This is actually a good summary of the beneficial aspects of proper (moderate, without burning) sun exposure, which Dr. Michael Holick explains in his book THE VITAMIN D SOLUTION, and which others have pointed out, namely, that people with a good amount of sun exposure (provided they don't overdo it by burning) have the lowest melanoma rates. Another* physician agrees:
"Three decades ago, researchers told us that indoor workers were at greater risk of melanoma skin cancer than outdoor workers and that people who worked in jobs that had indoor and outdoor components were at the lowest risk of melanoma" (pg. 176, THE VITAMIN D CURE, REVISED, by James E. Dowd, M.D., and Diane Stafford, Wiley, 2012).
This is something that really confuses me. So when is the appropriate time for sun exposure really? I try to expose my son to the sun from 6 AM to 9 PM. Is that okay? One doctor from television went further and said that it is important to expose to the sun at the unhealthy times like 12 PM for about 15 minutes. I don't dare follow it but is there any truth to his advice?
I also don't use sunscreen as most of them irritated my skin. Is an umbrella enough to protect myself and my son?
Wow. This is really a long post, but I never regret reading this. I am a melanotan user but I don't know everything about it yet. Getting additional knowledge from forums like this is definitely great.
