As a child, I attended sleepover camp as many Jewish children did. Camp Tamarack is the largest (or one of the largest) Fresh Air Society camps in the U.S. Some of my favorite memories from my childhood occurred at Camp Tamarack. I still have many Tamarack friends that I still connect with. This summer, I hosted a reunion for my Tamarack friends and it was truly a wonderful, memorable evening.
Yesterday, (12.30.15) Tamarack Camps put out a vaccine edict that mandates, “No child, camper, staff, artist in residence, volunteer, doctor, nurse, and their families will be allowed to come to camp without documentation of complete immunization according to the policy.”
The immunization policy states that everyone is to have age-appropriate vaccines according to the CDC which includes:
- DTaP, DT, Td, or Tdap
- IPV
- HIB
- PCV 13
- Rotavirus vaccine
- Hepatitis B
- Hepatitis A (strongly recommended)
- MMR or serologic evidence of immunity
- Varicella vaccine (chicken pox)
- Menactra
- Flu vaccine (strongly recommended)
You might assume that Tamarack Camps, which has been around for over 100 years, must have had an outbreak of a communicable disease. However, if that is true, I missed it. In fact, I would be interested in any data from Tamarack Camps of any outbreak of a communicable disease in its’ 100-year history.
In the letter I received, the Tamarack-Powers-That-Be state, “Given the overriding Jewish value of Pikuach Nefesh (saving a life), that puts a premium on maintaining health, including taking preventive measures, along with the clear public health based need to protect the camp community as a whole, and those unable to receive vaccines in particular, we are requiring that all campers, staff, artists in residence, volunteers, doctors, nurses, and their families planning to attend/participate in any Tamarack Camps programs be immunized…”
It is interesting that they would use the Hebrew term “Pikuach Nefesh”. I would be happy to introduce the Powers-That-Be from Camp Tamarack to parents, children, and other patients of mine who have been injured by vaccines. Maybe these people would have a different take on this draconian policy.
Perhaps Camp Tamarack is unaware that over $3 billion has been awarded by the Federal Government to children and adults injured by vaccines. Maybe Camp Tamarack can assure all who will have to be fully vaccinated to attend camp that it is safe to inject numerous doses of neurotoxins like mercury, aluminum and formaldehyde into any living being. As far as I am aware, there are zero—ZERO—safety studies on injecting a neurotoxin into a living being. I would like to see where Jewish law says it is safe to inject a neurotoxin into a baby or any living being.
Maybe Camp Tamarack should take notice that there is a whistle blower at the CDC—a senior scientist who authored research papers on childhood vaccinations—who has stated that the CDC has hidden and altered data that confirmed a link with the MMR vaccine to autism. Or, perhaps they could provide an explanation of why another whistleblower scientist who worked at Merck (who manufactures the MMR vaccine) has filed a federal lawsuit saying the mumps data used to justify the MMR vaccine was falsified by Merck.
In the Tamarack letter, they state, “While parents may choose to defer the vaccination of their children, for Tamarack Camps this is not an issue of individual rights and choice, but an issue of public health and policy.”
This is an issue of public health policy? Perhaps Camp Tamarack can assure every child, camper, staff, artist in residence, volunteer, doctor, nurse, and their families that giving them 49 doses of 14 vaccines before age 6 and 69 doses of 16 vaccines before age 18 is safe and will result in better health outcomes. I would assume public health policy seeks to improve, not harm the public health. Perhaps Tamarack Camps can explain why chronic childhood illnesses are increasing at epidemic rates. We give more and more vaccines, yet our kids are sicker and sicker.
- In 1976, one child in 30 was learning disabled. In 2013, one in 6 is learning disabled.
- In 1980, one child in 27 had asthma. In 2013, one child in nine has asthma.
- In 2001, one child in 500 had diabetes. In 2013, one in 400 has diabetes.
- In the 1990’s, one child in 555 developed autism. In 2013, one child in 50 has autism. In 2015, one child in 45 has autism. New research from MIT conducted by Dr. Stephanie Seneff estimates that if the current trend for autism continues, by 2025 one in two U.S. children will be classified as having autism.
Tamarack Camps , like the local Detroit area Jewish Temples and Synagogues are now alienating those parents that question the status quo about vaccines. Just because it is the standard of care does not make it correct. Doctors use to recommend cigarette smoking, DES, Vioxx, and many other toxic drugs that were later found to cause horrific diseases and adverse effects. I don’t think we need Camp Tamarack telling parents which medical decisions are appropriate for their child. I think an educated parent is in the best position to decide what medical therapies are appropriate for their child.
Finally, I don’t think we need Camp Tamarack as well as Jewish Temples and Synagogues putting a guilt trip on free-thinking, intelligent parents who make responsible health care decisions. The Tamarack letter is insulting to parents who have legitimate concerns on vaccine safety—as if these parents are not concerned for the most vulnerable in our population. These parents are trying to protect their children as best they can just as the parents who choose to vaccinate are. And, the parents who choose to vaccinate should not be made to feel guilty as the scientific data has clearly shown that vaccination with a live-virus vaccine has been shown to spread viral particles which can infect others—even those already vaccinated.
This vaccine hysteria has seemingly taken over the Detroit Jewish Community. There is no discussion about this topic, only edicts. I wrote to you before when my Temple issued a similar edict. I say, let’s focus the hysteria elsewhere. Let’s get hysterical about why our Congress has not called a hearing about the CDC whistleblower’s claims about the MMR vaccine. Insanity can be defined as doing the same thing over and over in the same way and expecting a different result. Our children are suffering a myriad of serious health issues that are increasing, not decreasing, over the last 30 years. Before mandating more vaccines, let’s have an intelligent discussion on vaccines and, most importantly, let’s hear the whistleblower from the CDC speak, under oath, in front of Congress.

Thank you for your informative & insightful predictions involving the growing health epidemic being caused by vaccines. I have an older daughter who has been completely vaccinated according to the schedule required in 1999. I was young & didn’t realize the dangers. Now I have been blessed with 2 younger children- almost 2 & 4 1/2 who currently go to a pediatric office in Troy. They recently changed their policy to not accept new patients unless they are vaccinated. They make me feel uncomfortable about my choices not to vaccinate my boys & I recently gave in to my 4 year old receiving a Tdap. I don’t want to feel uncomfortable or like a bad parent for not vaccinating according to schedule. Are there any pediatricians in the area that you could recommend that are holistic or just not vaccine pushers?

As an employee of a large senior housing, which includes independent apts, assisted living, and a care center (nursing home), I must tell you something I have observed since I started 20 years ago. I am hoping you would write an article on it.
In 1996 when I started, the company like many others gave free flu shots to the employees, in my discussion with a nurses aide that had been there 10 years, she knew I declined the shot, and exclaimed to me, watch after this fall when our seniors get their flu shot the death rates over the next couple of months seem to double.
I was shocked, as it seemed to be true. Not knowing if the effect could be a vitamin D3 shortage over the winter months I tried to keep an open mind. Until, they introduced the ‘senior’ flu shot a couple of years ago for over 65.
Last month I just finished an hour class on the flu and shots, and was confirmed, the senior shot contains 4X the toxins,(the class didn’t use those words), to make the shot ‘work better’ for the seniors. Well, I cannot describe the true horror, on what is happening, I am shocked. It’s nothing like I have ever seen. And we are keeping the mortuaries very busy. I call it the Great Culling. May God forgive us.
If they won’t listen to dissident doctors, maybe they should have consulted with the luminary Rabbi Kamenetzky, before they approved their tyrannical admission requirements.
Rabbi Kamenetzky is dean of the Talmudical Yeshiva of Philadelphia and a member of the rabbinical board that guides Agudath Israel of America, the leading ultra-Orthodox umbrella organization.
One of the country’s most prominent ultra-Orthodox rabbis has condemned vaccines as a “hoax” in an interview with a local Jewish newspaper.
“I see vaccinations as the problem,” Rabbi Shmuel Kamenetzky told the Baltimore Jewish Times in a story published in late August. “It’s a hoax. Even the Salk [polio] vaccine is a hoax. It’s just big business.”
Kamenetzky argued that schools should not exclude unvaccinated students, as they currently do under public health laws. He also claimed that school janitors would be spreading disease if vaccines worked. “They are mostly Mexican and are unvaccinated,” the rabbi said. “If there was a problem, the children would already have gotten sick.”
Kamenetzky is dean of the Talmudical Yeshiva of Philadelphia and a member of the rabbinical board that guides Agudath Israel of America, the leading ultra-Orthodox umbrella organization. He spoke at the umbrella group’s annual gala in May. His wife, Temi Kamenetzky, gives lectures opposing vaccines.
While Kamenetzky’s opposition to vaccinations does not appear to be widespread among the ultra-Orthodox, he’s also not alone. “It’s a matter of some contention, but that’s true of the broader society as well,” said Rabbi Dovid Zwiebel, executive director of Agudath Israel. “There is a small, but not insignificant, part of the populace that is persuaded that vaccination can be a dangerous thing… Some rabbis may be part of that population also.”
As a doctor too, I could easily say that dr. Brownstein is very accurate!
A parasite does not (usually) kill it’s host. It attempts to maintain the debilitated state of the host to satisfy it’s own needs. The pharmaceutical oligopy is a social parasite. It is ‘hand in glove’ with the mega food producers who get people ‘hooked’ on dangerous food. All this is known. But most people refuse to Even consider how they have been parasitized and poisoned on a daily basis. I worked in acute health care- our society is at risk if we do not find a new paradigm, a new ‘father’ figure, a new god, not based on commercial medicine, or ‘sacred science’. I dispare that I will find myself in a world of poisoned food and poisoned water surrounded by humans who are sick, violent and demented. Is it the eugenics experiment that hitler wanted? I truely wish to be wrong, and trust authorities – but again and again it is proved that only the profit must survive.

I hate to be the one to make this comment but in case there is anyone that doesn’t understand that the pharmaceutical industry has one overriding motive and that is profit, everyone but especially the Jewish people need to be aware of how I.G. Farben (a conglomerate of Bayer, BASF and Noechst -later to become Aventis/Sanofi) sponsored Adolph Hitler’s reign and was the biggest profiteers of WWII. I.G. Farben was prosecuted for war crimes in the Nuremburg Trials (#6 specifically) and 24 of the board members were sentenced to prison but by 1952 all had been released many on reduced sentences. Three of them even went on to become CEO’s of the very same pharmaceutical companies that participated in the atrocities of using prisoners as slave labor to build the largest industrial plant in the world. Is this the Camp Tamarack in Michigan? If so I would like to know if this is a policy of the camp itself or whomever leases their time. (like religious groups, schools etc) I assume the public schools still take 6th graders to camp for 2 days like they did in the 70’s. That is going to be an issue.

It’s not just happening at schools and camps–I’ve heard about pediatrician offices are refusing to treat any children who have not been vaccinated! This is now becoming the norm–what I find so disheartening is the apathy of so many people. I try to bring all of these things (vaccinations, Big Pharma, FDA, CDC, GMO/GE food, fracking, etc.) to people’s attention but they don’t want to hear it (I’m not aggressive about it!)–most people feel there is nothing they can do, but I say there is plenty to do–speak up–just like you do on this blog!!

Excellent column Dr. B. have saved it for reference. Sadly I believe we are going to see more and more of this totalitarian approach to our health care given Obamacare has not been repealed and government intrusion into our private health care decisions marches on. I pray the parents of these campers fight hard to have the ridiculous policy rescinded or simply do not patronize the camp. Explain to me how it is necessary to require children get the Hepatitis B vaccine when that disease is caught by dirty IV needle use or anal sex. And if I am not mistaken, the Rotavirus vaccine has been directly attributed to intestinal blockages in children.
I love Dr Brownstein. I read every blog post. Yet please understand my frustration and heartbreak when I say that this is a voluntary camp, and you feel this strongly about it, yet my child is being forced to have vaccinations to go to school in California now (preschool). We just got the letter from them:(. It was a stomach virus that swept through the camp. I definitely felt scrutinized when I brought my kid back. That camp rocks it in so many ways. This is not one of them. My mom went there as a kid and was a counselor and my grandma went there with her students when she was a teacher at Hillel. How did those “under vaccinated” kids survive!? Tamarack was the one “Jewish ” place my kid felt he fit in. I’m deeply saddened by this.

It is obvious that we are not lacking data and the data suggests something is wrong. The tragedy is how there is this automatic acceptance of advice, news reporting, etc. We have a responsibility to process this data to tailor it to ourselves. Tamarack Camps maybe for kids disabled by vaccines soon or go out of business since people don’t want vaccines unless they have no clue they hurt people and don’t help. Yes…vaccines hurt. The head person may not realize what they are asking for. Too bad. The head person should get all their vaccines up to date and see how they feel. I am glad you are getting the truth out there. For 10 years, I talked to my sister about enjoying better health then what she was experiencing. She scorned my suggestions as impractical and untested. Then the medical establishment let her down when they could no longer offer solutions or a new pill. At the same time, she met someone who gave her the same advise that I’ve been giving for 10 years. The light bulb clicked on! She is now on board and seeing results.
Don’t ever give up, Dr. B! Modern medicine is failing, and sadly, when enough people become desperate for solutions, we must be there to pick up their pieces. My hope is that enough will see the truth before so many more are injured by barbaric “medicine”.
How sad this is. All 3 of my kids were Tamarack campers. One has not had a DPT since he was 2 on doctors orders due to a severe reaction. Guess he would not be allowed in camp now. Good thing he’s 30. I plan to start a Facebook campaign and any other kind I can to expose their treachery. This is ridiculous. I am saddened at this point to be a part of the Detroit Jewish community, that is so short sighted. They are singling out children who don’t receive vaccines for punishment, yet they can’t wait to cozy up with those who truly wish us dead. SMH.

Why are young babies subjected to vaccines for THREE diseases at the same time (MMR). Surely it would be much safer to vaccinate on 3 separate occasions as we use to do? Introducing a virus into a young baby to encourage their immune system and protect from a nasty disease is bad enough, but maybe necessary. But expecting a young babies body to cope with THREE viruses at the same time, seems to me lunacy.

Dr. Brownstein your blog was great. I wish you would have mentioned all the smart and beautiful students recently thrown out of their Jewish day schools. Hillel, Akiva, Ann Arbor Jewish day school, Temple Emanuel and temple Israel. These kids were thrown out the only school, they ever knew even after obtaining a waiver from the health department. This has torn families apart and children more than you could imagine. Hillel was sued for a child to finish their last year there after being a student there for 8 years and the family lost. Hillel and camp tamarack would completely disagree with you and your blogs. You should sit down with Steve Freedman head of Hillel day school and straighten him out for the new year. This was not fair for any child or family to have to go through. The pain runs deep and the tears don’t stop.
It is a sad state of affairs. It is amazing to me that people can be so short-sighted and so dogmatic.

It is unfortunate that back in 2010, we allowed the government to take over the management of health care and dictate what we can and can’t do, what coverage we must have and the demise of ala carte plans. It was only a matter of time before mandatory vaccines came along. Until more of us health care consuming public says NO to insurance coverage and opt for concierge care, the medical police state will continue.
Girl Scout camp also required vaccinations to attend… At least they did 10 years ago. That was the end of scouting for us!
I find it interesting that the Jewish dietary food laws are so strict, yet this camp that you have noted, does not consider the ingredients that are in vaccines and how the vaccines are made; animal DNA, human DNA, formaldehyde, aborted fetal cell lines, antibiotics, one of the 2014 influenza vaccines was grown in cancerous kidney cells from a cocker spaniel. Injecting these substances are harmful and unfortunately, no research is being done to find out the harm that is being done; cancer, autoimmune diseases, death, neurological damage, etc.

I’m somewhat surprised that in discussing vaccinations and a Jewish children’s camp that you failed to mention the vast majority of vaccines contain some form of unclean meat. Several years ago the flu vaccination was created using Rhesus monkeys which are clearly identified as unclean by the Torah. Yes, I understand that “kosher” often means the product has been blessed (approved) by the rabbis and may not be kosher according to Torah and that many Jews do not keep kosher. Still, when one believes in a Creator greater than man that He created and that Creator instructs man not to eat certain meats, it should give one pause about Pikuach Nefesh when it permits what the Creator in His infinite wisdom has forbidden.

I certainly agree whole heartedly. As a teacher I see this all the time. I love your explanation about vaccinations,, concise and clear. I have copied it to pass it along to lots of friends and especially two friends who are expecting. I sure hope someone gets the message soooooooon, these shots are hurting us and our kids. This was your best vaccine post yet. I totally agree. It illustrates the prevalence of finger pointing , poorly informed politically correct and righteously indignant people who have their eyes on their own bottom line rather than the health of the individual..
Unfortunately independant rational thought is rare today and most people relegate their will to the powers that be as you put it. It is intuitively obvious to the most casual observer that vaccines are dangerous. Why is this so hard for most people to understand this?That is where we should focus our inquiries as it is the fundamental issue. Ira
Sir: I have read many of your books and believe that to require a immunization for any person is to infringe on their rights as a citizen. I also believe that the big pharma has become so powerful as to force government to submit to some rule to line their pockets with money at the expense of our health. I therefore concur with your statements in this blog post.
I am truly sorry that our nation has become a nation of laws rather than a nation of freedom. Some laws are needed, but many are not and cause a loss of the very freedoms we have expected and enjoyed. Medicine is among those I am referencing. The control of firearms and the control of personal and real property is in the mix.
Thanks to doctor’s like you my life is still worth more than just staying alive…..I still chop wood and work daily at the age of 77 with cancer in my body and many other health issues that I give God the credit for holding in check, along with holistic medicine.
