The nutritional police are losing! We are closer to having the freedom to speak about nutrition without fearing arrest by the nutrition police. This week, the Michigan House of Representatives voted 71-39 to repeal the Dietetics and Nutrition Licensure Law. All the republicans and 1/3 of the democrats voted for the repeal.
The next step is for the Michigan Senate to take up the cause. The Senate will debate SB 579 which is the identical bill passed in the Michigan House.
This is truly a story of David versus Goliath. The Michigan Nutrition Association is a small group of committed citizens who believe that no one should be put in jail for providing nutritional advice. On the other hand, we have the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics who receive funds by many corporate entities including Coca Cola, Mars, and General Mills.
We have the momentum. Let’s not lose it now. This is an example of the government working for us.
I will keep you posted,

As a RD, we work hard for our licensure and to maintain it, just like many other professions – RN, MD, DO, etc.
Not all RD’s are ignorant to the fact that the Academy has ties to the big food industry. There is an active group called Dietitian’s for Professional Integrity that is actively seeking for the Academy to cut these ties.
Thank you for your promotion of health freedom.
Hello, Dr. B. Bravo, Bravo, Bravo !!

Glad to hear the letters, e-mails and such are getting through on this one. I am so thankful for Doctors like you and your staff that care about nutrition to help all of us.
go dr brownstein, you are one of my heroes.
Jim,
Thank you, but, we all need to go!! Write letters, tell them what you want/don’t want. We can win this one and win others!

Thanks for the update. That is good news. Considering the direction our government has been going these past several years, it is encouraging to achieve any victories for “the little guy”!!!
