It seems there are quite a few new drugs being banned on the World National Bodybuilding Federation (WNBF) this year. As of 1 July 2016 the following drugs will be banned from the natural bodybuilding scene:
5-Etioallocholen-3b,7b,17b-triol ; 7 Keto DHEA ; 6 OXO
And those are just the groups, there are lists of banned compounds that can be found here. I’m not going to get into the messy naming business now, but it is worth a look if you’re thinking of taking part in a competition any time soon. There are urine tests at most big bodybuilding events and the chances are that these three drugs (along with all the sub-categories) are going to start being tested for, which is all good and well, but what do these drugs actually do and how can you make sure they aren’t in your urine?
Let’s start with 5-Etioallocholen-3b,7b,17b-triol or androstenetriol. This drug is claimed to block cortisol, but there is no significant data (from human studies) out there to back this up. Nevertheless this drug is used in many bodybuilding supplements, so it would be a good idea to check the labels before you buy the products. There’s a very interesting read that explains exactly what cortisol does, at the end of it there’s a recommendation to take a four week break from the product, so I’m guessing that’s how long it will take to detox your body from androstenetriol.
7 Keto DHEA is next on the list. This steroid is also prevalent in many supplements that claim to aid weight loss while building muscle at the same time. It is also said to increase memory and slow down aging. 7-Keto has been around for a long time and chances are lots of supplements uses this and any of its derivatives. If you’re worried about “getting clean” before a big event I’d suggest reading this nifty little gem.
Last up is 6 OXO. While researching I found Bill Roberts (a very clued up guy it would seem), who explained that 6 OXO is “a poor prohormone”. It literally does the work of increasing testosterone and then converts it straight back to estrogen. Rendering its powers as a bodybuilding supplement pretty useless.
And there you have it. So check your supplements and make sure you’ll be “clean” for your next big event, if you’re a competing bodybuilder. These substances will be banned as of 1 July 2016. During 2016 there will be a 3 month amnesty period for these drugs and as of 1 Januaury 2018 they will carry a 2 year ban time frame. This is only regarding the WNBF though. Although if there is a new list of banned substances for the WNBF I am sure all the smaller bodubuilding foundations and associations will also be updating their lists, so do make sure you know what you may and may not use as supplements for natural bodybuilding this year, before you get caught out for not knowing.
