    insulin questions

I'm going to experiment to find out what is most effective way to take insulin..

So at first I wanted to do Humulin N (insulin isophane). Inject it in the evening then eat my dinner and get up in the morning six hrs later and eat breakfast, also have low fat, high protein and carbohydrate diet.

But I think that using Humilin R (rapid form of insulin) is gonna be better because of it being in-and-out of your body rapidly..

I am thinking of injecting HumulinR 2 times a day.. 15iu 4 days on 3 days off because I will take it only on workout days.

5 iu in the morning and 10iu before my workout..

    Does it sound okay?

After 5iu morning dose I will eat protein/carbohydrate breakfast, always have dextrose tabs with me, after an hour eat another protein/carb meal..

About 8 hrs after the morning injection I would inject 10 iu's about 30 minutes before my workout eat protein/carb meal and drink waxy maize also have dextroze and orange juice during my workout, post wo drink protein shake with dextrose and 40 minutes after eat huge protein/carbohydrate dinner..

Humulin-R has 2 insulin spikes. You will need to eat with your first injection and after that one hour later.

I would always eat immediately after the injection.

Start with much lower doses. You shouldn't take the effects of hypoglycemia too lightly..

And never inject insulin before going to sleep!

Yeah I forgot about that idea already and will just use short acting insulin in the morning and prior to workout..
I would eat around 500 grams of carbohydrates per day..

You definitely don't want to inject Humulin N before going to sleep, it would peak while you are sleeping.. Check this graph for time of insulin action

Black line is for Humalog, blue is Humulin R, purple is Humulin N

With the insulin you are not, if you have hypoglycemia then injecting the Humulin-R will give you nasty side effects if you don't think about your carbohydrates timing.

Don't think that you are okay with a certain quantity of carbohydrates if you currently have hypo issues, 1 day 500grams of carbohydrates might be good but a day later that's too low and the Humulin-R will knock you out.

Increase your dose gradually with Humulin-R to see how many carbohydrates keeps your blood sugar level balanced. Be careful by taking any stims or drinking coffee because it will increase the effects of hypo.

Keep the dextrose tablets all the time like you said.

And also it is good idea to use Metformin on non insulin days to help keep your sensitivity to insulin up.

In my opinion Humalog is a lot better and less risky because Humulin-R has that 2nd insulin spike, it can suprise you when you think that you are good..

Your protocol looks good. I prefer Humalog when taking insulin more than once a day. In and out of your system quickly, no bullshit...

When I used Humalog two times per day I got a strange insulin spike at the 3 hr mark almost everytime, and everyone who claims that it is out in about 1,5 hr is really wrong.

I don't see where anyone said that Humalog would be out of system after 1,5 hr but I agree. Humalog peaks at 60-90 minutes, so it's quite the opposite. It is out after approximately 5 hours.

You can also use apple cider vinegar tablets for this purpose, it will increase your insulin sensitivity as well.

Just one suggestion, don't play around with moderate and slow carbohydrates at first. You should eat fast carbohydrates at first and don't be scared to take them more then needed. Begin with alot of carbs and then slowly decrease them.

Because being careful is better than risking..

Don't forget to get a glucometer, it should be easier to adjust carbohydrates with it.

A wise idea would be to have a small journal about how much and what kind of carbohydrates you're eating, also how your training is and when you feel the insulin spikes.
